皮影戲是一種用平面人物剪影通過白色幕布表演的影子戲。皮影戲中的平面人物剪影以及道具通常是民間藝人制成的皮制品，故稱之為皮影。皮影戲是我國(guó)出現(xiàn)最早的戲曲劇種之一。它的演出裝備輕便，唱腔豐富優(yōu)美，表演精彩動(dòng)人。千百年來(lái)，皮影戲深受廣大民眾的喜愛。不僅如此，它還對(duì)國(guó)內(nèi)外文化藝術(shù)的發(fā)展起到一定的作用。有不少新的地方戲曲劇種就是從各路皮影戲中派生出來(lái)的。中國(guó)皮影戲所用的幕影演出原理給當(dāng)代電影的發(fā)明提供了靈感。
The shadow play is a form of drama using plane puppets to perform through a white screen made of cloth. The shadow play gets its name from the fact that the puppets and the instruments are made of animal skin by folk artists.
