水墨畫（Chinese ink painting）是中國繪畫的代表，也就是狹義上的“國畫”。這種繪畫形式主要采用本民族特色的繪畫工具和材料，如毛筆、宣紙和墨等。水墨畫最初只有水與墨。黑與白兩種顏色，但進階的水墨畫，也有色彩繽紛的工筆花鳥畫（fine brushwork flower-and-bird painting）。水墨畫的典型題材包括人物、山水和花烏，繪畫者往往借此表達自己的情感。水墨畫在中國有幾百年甚至上千年的歷史，如今越來越為全世界人民所歡迎和認可。
Chinese ink painting is a representative of Chinese painting, also known as “the national painting of China” in a narrow sense.
