Nowadays an old saying “Listening is more important than talking” comes into vogue. The saying informs us of the true essence of communication with others in society, which means paying attention to others’ opinions is of much more importance than expressing one’s own ideas.
As for me, there are two reasons accounting for the correctness of this principle. To start with, listening shows our respect to others. In such an aggressive society, willingness to listen enables us to gain trust and friendship, which are the basic rules of interpersonal communication. A talkative person without enough patience to listen to others is doomed to be alienated. Furthermore, listening can really do great good to us. There is no denying that we ourselves are the people to make choices in our own life. However, a variety of ideas from others will definitely enrich our minds and present some enlightenment to our future actions.
