東西方文化對創新的內涵有不同理解和定義，亞洲傳統比較保守，西方近代的文化則比較開明，但兩者在創新方面的影響力則各有千秋。
西方文化的一個特點是強調個人的貢獻，或許這有歷史與宗教的原因，以個人為主是西方傳統風格，演變到今日表現在西方文化和創造發明中往往是制造個人英雄，并將其個人貢獻置于集體之上，其好處是激發人的進取心，弊端是導致以個人為中心，間接影響創新。
創新，到達一定程度之后需要各方面的配合。東方文化則在這方面會起積極作用。東方傳統教育強調腳踏實地打基礎，強調死記硬背，影響了對新現象、新問題的大膽設想、論證。
The understanding and definition of innovation between the Eastern and Western cultures differs, as traditional Asian culture is more conservative, while modern culture of the West is more liberal. But in terms of innovation, their influences are different.
One characteristic of Western culture is the emphasis on individual contributions, which may be out of historical and religious reasons. As a tradition of Western culture, the emphasis on the individual has evolved to the present, and in Western culture and invention it is manifested by making individual heroes and placing individual contributions above collective efforts. The advantage is that it can inspire one’s enterprise. The flaw is that it results in self-centered individualism, thus affecting innovation indirectly.
