一直以來，中國富人把打高爾夫球當作其財富和高端生活的標志。直到20世紀80年代，經濟學家們才意識到高爾夫運動可以作為一種吸引外資的方式。1984 年，中國在廣東省建起了第一個高爾夫球場，當時的設計者是高爾夫球星阿諾德·帕爾默（Arnold Palmer）。隨著2009 年 10 月高爾夫正式被確立為奧運會比賽項目，國家加大了投入，對提高中國高爾夫球水平起到了推動作用，相信中國高爾夫的發展將會愈發迅猛。
Playing golf is always being regarded by the better off Chinese as a symbol of their wealth and high quality lifestyles. It wasn’t until the 1980s that economists began to realize that the game could be a means of attracting foreign investment to China. The first golf court in China was designed by golf icon Arnold Palmer and constructed in Guangdong Province in 1984. With the official establishment of golf as an Olympic event in October 2009, China has increased its investment and played a positive role in improving the level of golf. It is believed that the development of golf in China will be more and more rapid.
