In China, it is common to see the square dancing when people pass by public parks or wide-open squares in the evenings. Groups of middle-aged and elderly women dancing to the loud music have become a view in the urban areas. It is widely admitted that this new type of physical activity is very effective in preventing people from getting old. It is an effective way of keeping people clear-minded, having better memory and even delaying the age-related diseases.
However, every coin has two sides. Although it is a good choice for elderly people to do exercises and keep healthy, it does takes up too much space and is too loud, which has a bad influence on other people’ normal life. In some cities, due to the continuous complaints from residents living nearby, square dancing and loud music have been forbidden. Dividing fixed regions for them has been taken into consideration by the related department. Regardless of the improvements that square dance has brought to older generations, maintaining the public order is still necessary.
